Geirangerfjord: UNESCO World Heritage Cruising
Geirangerfjord is one of Norway's most spectacular natural attractions and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, attracting cruise ships and solo travelers from all over the world. This small fjord, sculpted by glaciers and inundated by the sea, is surrounded by towering cliffs that rise up to 1,400 meters and feature iconic waterfalls such as the Seven Sisters, the Bridal Veil, and the Suitor. As part of Norway's environmental commitment, a landmark zero-emissions rule went into effect on January 1, 2026. This regulation currently mandates that all passenger ships under 10,000 GT must operate without direct CO₂ or methane emissions while in the fjord. Larger cruise ships have been granted a transition period until 2032, ensuring that future tourism will leave a significantly lesser ecological impact while conserving this spoiled splendor for generations to come.
