Norway's Tourism Boom: Record-Breaking 2025

Norway's tourism industry reached historic milestones in 2025, with the country welcoming over 7.196 million international tourists, surpassing the seven-million mark for the first time. This represents an 8% increase over 2024 and an astonishing 75% surge compared to the pre-COVID year of 2019, confirming Norway's strong recovery and expanding global attractiveness. While total visitor arrivals reached 20.356 million, the growth was entirely driven by international interest, as domestic travel actually fell by 2%.

International overnight stays climbed even faster than arrivals, increasing by 14% to 14.165 million from 2024. In contrast, domestic overnights saw a marginal increase of only 1%. International visitors now account for 35% of all overnight stays, illustrating Norway's transition into a major worldwide destination. Overall, a record-breaking 40.6 million overnight stays in commercial accommodations were reported in 2025, up 5.2% from the previous year.

Favorable currency rates, combined with creative marketing efforts to promote Norway's distinctive natural attractions, explain this influx. Hotels remained the primary choice for travelers, adding 1.4 million overnight stays to reach a total of 28 million. Significant growth came from the United States, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, and Belgium, all of which experienced double-digit gains. As noted by Statistics Norway, the country has never seen more foreign guest nights, proving that its spectacular landscapes and focus on sustainability have made it one of Europe's most appealing destinations.
