Egypt's 2025 Tourism Boom: Historic Growth and Recovery

Egypt's tourism sector performed admirably in 2025, welcoming a record-breaking 19 million international tourists—a 21% rise over 2024. This historic achievement signifies one of the world's fastest growth rates, far exceeding the UN Tourism predicted global average of 4-5%. This milestone underlines Egypt's resilience and its status as a top global destination, supported by improved security, increased air connectivity, and a strategic vision to diversify the visitor experience.

Charter flight traffic was a major driver of this surge, increasing by 32% in 2025 with flights arriving from 193 cities worldwide. A standout success was New Alamein City on the Mediterranean coast; charter flights to the city increased by an unprecedented 450%, rapidly establishing it as a global hotspot. This shift helps distribute tourism benefits beyond the traditional Red Sea resorts and Nile Valley, offering a mix of beach relaxation, adventure, and modern luxury.

Cultural tourism saw exceptional growth, with archaeological sites and museums (excluding the NMEC and the Grand Egyptian Museum) receiving 18.6 million foreign visitors—a 33.5% increase year-on-year. The full opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) in late 2025 has further fueled this momentum. Minister of Tourism Sherif Fathy noted that these results reflect Egypt's competitive edge as a safe and diverse destination, positioning the country to continue its upward trajectory through 2026 and toward its goal of 30 million annual visitors.
